
The Brooklyn Dodgers are one of the most storied teams and legendary in the history of baseball. Most famous for his second baseman, Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in not only baseball but all professional sports, the Dodgers were one of the first teams to join the then-upstart National League. Baseball Brooklyn Dodgers' Club was established in 1883 and joined the now defunct American Association the following year, they won the pennant of the American Association in 1889 and joined the National League in 1890.
The Dodgers tried a variety of nicknames before one finally stayed, were originally called Brooklyn Atlantic, and later the Brooklyn gray. The New York press took even call them "lovers of Brooklyn," when many of the players he had married in rapid succession. The team won the nickname "Trolley Dodgers" when they played at the Parque del Este in the 1890s and the fans and players had problems accessing the park because of the scarcity of tram lines in Brooklyn at the time.
Early Dodgers teams played in two stages East Baseball Park and Washington Park, before they moved to Ebbets Field. Pennants They won the National League in 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952 and 1953 and were defeated five times by the New York Yankees. Thus, the baseball immortal slogan "Wait until next year!" was born. The only team the Brooklyn Dodgers to win the World Series, did it in 1955 at Yankee Stadium.
In 1902, Charles Ebbets was deeply in debt to keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn. He invested heavily Washington to replace the park with the appropriately titled Ebbets Field, located in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, who became the Dodgers' home until his transfer to Los Angeles. Ebbets acquired plots of land of their property until the entire block; Ebbets Field opened on April 9, 1913. The team had limited success until "player development genius" Branch Rickey was hired, then the Dodgers have become a perennial National League pennant. Ebbets Field was host of 1949 the All Star game and the ballpark and the Dodgers move to Los Angeles were presented in an episode of the acclaimed documentary by Ken Burns, baseball also classic Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman references American drama Ebbets Field. After the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles, Ebbets Field was demolished on 23 February 1960.
Perhaps the most famous and historically significant for the Brooklyn Dodgers was the break the color barrier with young, talented Jackie Robinson. Winner the first prize of Rookie of the Year and Hall of Fame Baseball, Robinson ended almost 80 years of segregation in baseball. Jackie Robinson attended to UCLA and became the first Black athlete to win letters in four sports college baseball, football, basketball and athletics. He later served in the Army U.S. as a 2nd Lieutenant. Power on April 15, 1947, Robinson became the first African American of a major league team. He earned the minimum of the Great Leagues, $ 5000, his rookie year, while he also played first base (Robinson played second base for most of his career). Jackie Robinson played in six teams in the World Series, received six nominations consecutive All-Star Game, and won the MVP of the National League in 1949. He retired on January 5 1957, and became a political activist until his death on 24 October 1972. Robinson was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role in the American Civil Rights movement. On 15 April 1997 on the 50th anniversary of his debut, Major League Baseball retired his jersey the number, 42.
After the 1957 season, the controversial Brooklyn Dodgers moved to Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Dodgers have won the Series World five times since his transfer in 1959, 1963, 1965, 1981 and 1988.
